CAAC predicts rapid climb to top echelon of world rankings for the countrys airlines and airports by 2020China expects three of the countrys airlines to be ranked among the worlds 10 largest by 2020 as demand for Chinese air travel continues to grow at a rapid rate.Civil Aviation Administration of China CAAC vice-minister Gao Hongfeng revealed the projection last week at an industry conference in Hong Kong, where he outlined the latest growth plans for the countrys air transport sector.漏FLIGHT INTERNATIONALIt is hoped that there will be around three Chinese airlines ranked in the top 10 world airlines by revenue passenger kilometres and three Chinese airlines ranking in the top 10 world airlines by operating revenue, says Gao, referring to the period between 2011 and 2020. The countrys three main airline groups are Beijing-based Air China, Guangzhou-based China Southern Airlines, and Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines. According to sister publication Airline Businesss last world airline rankings survey, for 2004, Air China was 23rd in terms of revenue, while China Southern ranked 31st and China Eastern ranked 3 owala 8th.According to Flights ACAS database, Chinas fleet of civil transport aircraft now stands at 890 aircraft including Russian/CIS types , compared with just over 500 in 2000. Maule Air is working on a diesel-powered version of its M-7 five-seat short take-off and landing light aircraft. The new version, designated the MX-9-230, will be powered by a 170kW 230hp SR-305 engine burning Jet A kerosene. The four-c air force one ylinder engine is produced by SMA, a joint venture of EADS, Renault and Snecma. Moultrie, Georgia-based Maule has installed the engine in an M-7 and is preparing to begin flight tests. Certification is expected to take about a year, says technical advisor David Wright. The company has begun to take orders for the aircraft, which is priced at around $200,000, with deliveries to begin immediately after certification.
