Mirus teams with Linspire to offer Linux-based desktops starting at $299 Computer maker Mirus Innovations and software vendor Lins stanley thermobecher pirehave teamed to offer a line of Linux-based desktop PCs starting at $299.The new low-cost com stanley cup puters, called Koobox, are equipped with the Linspire operating system, based on the Linux operating system, and a broad range of open-source applications including OpenOffice.org office suite, Internet browser, e-mail, instant messaging, media player, and photo manager, the companies said Wednesday in a statement.The Essential Koobox computer, which costs $299, is designed for basic computing. The machine is equipped with the Sempron processor from Advanced Micro Devices AMD , 256MB of RAM and a 40GB hard drive. For $399, the Multimedia Koobox includes DVD player software, a 16x Dual Layer DVD-RW drive, 512MB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. The Performance Koobox, priced at $499, features the AMD 64-bit Athlon 3000+ processor.The computers can be purchased at: http://koobox/index.php.
